PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed the Transport Ministry’s commitment in assisting motor parts traders to resolve a number of issues that are affecting industry players.

The Transport Minister who received a delegation from the Selangor and Federal Territory Engineering and Motor Parts Traders Association of Malaysia (Empta) said among the issues that were highlighted to him were the difficulties in obtaining E-mark certification, HS Codes and streamlining Component Type Approval (CTA) and Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) application.

"I listened to their feedback on several issues faced by more than 1,100 member companies associated with Empta and many other companies nationwide involved in trading after-market auto parts.

"We will coordinate with the relevant authorities and ministries to help their members expedite their processes in these matters," he said in a Facebook post.

The Empta delegation was represented by their deputy chairman Tan Hang Chai, secretary-general Kenneth Cheng and assistant secretary-general Darren Wong.

The delegation also raised concerns by the traders who were not able to obtain parts to repair Proton x50 and x70 models, forcing car owners with no choice but to fix their vehicles at the original makers’ 4S facilities.

"We will also look into whether this violates any rules of competition or reduces the right to report for owners of these models," he said.

Dr Wee also invited the committee to write to the ministry to hold more dialogues to discuss current issues that might arise related to the automotive and auto parts industries.
